Misdiagnosis

In today's world of state of the art medicine, the art of diagnosis has reached levels of accuracy never before dreamed of. Nevertheless, the time honored process of differential diagnosis remains essential in diagnosing illness that cannot be seen on a film or screen, or definitively found through a test. Regardless of whether the diagnosis is made by X-ray, CAT scan, MRI, ultrasound, mammogram or laboratory test, when the diagnosis is wrong and the doctor has fallen below an accepted standard of care resulting in injury to the patient, the matter should be investigated and pursued if feasible.  The most common types of misdiagnoses, include cancer, pulmonary embolism, stroke, infection, and perforation following endoscopic or laparascopic procedures.
